Pick n Pay
Pick n Pay has supported teachers with free educational material for seven years through the Pick n Pay School Club, the largest independently developed school materials programme in the country. This long-running, brand-funded schools programme puts the Pick n Pay brand and the stories its eight other partners into workbooks, posters and teachers’ guides, and then puts them into both primary as well as high schools to improve the quality of the education in our country. This year, Pick n Pay identified a real need for recognising learners and encouraging them to be heroes in every aspect of their daily lives, from leadership and academic achievement, to overcoming hardship and assisting in the greater community. This was also called for by the Department of Education and so, the theme for the Pick n Pay School Club 2010 is “Inspired by Heroes”. Both learners and educators have the opportunity to stand up and be counted for the contribution they make in the lives of those around them through Pick n Pay. The Hero Awards honours everyday people that have gone out of their way to help others in their schools and their community.
“In the words of Mahatma Gandhi, ‘We walk this way but once. Any good that we shall do let us do it now for we shall never walk this path again’. We at Glenhazel Primary School are so proud to be liaising with the Pick n Pay School Club Hero Awards. We need to acknowledge our young stars that are shining out against the darkness and the Pick n Pay School Club has taken an active role in our communities and in our schools to help us do exactly that. Thank you Pick n Pay School Club - you are making such a difference in motivating our young learners!” Ms Khan, Grade 3 teacher from Glenhazel Primary
"I would like to thank everyone involved with the Pick 'n Pay Club initiative, both regarding the Hero drive and the educational resource pack supplied to our school. The content and physical quality of the posters and booklets are superb and even easily adaptable to IEB schools such as ourselves. It is big business initiatives like the Pick n Pay School Club that go a long way to enhancing the arsenal of educators and parents alike, who must lead the fight against those entities of post-modernism that are threatening to rid our youth of the personal and interpersonal values and skills so vital to the survival of human morality. Thank you for inviting our school to be a member of your Club! Antony Radomsky, HOD Life Orientation from King David High School Victory Park
