The aim of the Healthy World section is to increase environmental awareness and conservation practices by encouraging schools to foster an environmental conscience among their learners.

Special emphasis is placed on recycling, as is participation in Pick n Pay-supported projects such as Pick n Pay’s Challenge, which aims to eradicate plastic bags for a cleaner and greener South Africa.

Pick n Pay is also involved in the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC), which focuses on the conservation of rare, vulnerable or endangered animals, and one of their key focuses is cheetah conservation.

The HESC also offers an intensive, hands-on Student's Programme to conservation and adventure enthusiasts from around the world.

As per new government legislation, all Pick n Pay stores have the 24-micron plastic bags available for purchase at the till points. Pick n Pay continues to offer other alternatives to customers, i.e. the 'Bag for Life' and the environmentally friendly 'Green Bag'.

To date, Pick n Pay has sold 5.5 million Green Bags, and a portion of the R5 selling price (cost price to Pick n Pay) has been donated to a Pick n Pay environmental fund.
