What is your current role within the education space?
I am the Head Chef at Phumzile Primary School.
What inspired you to follow this career path?
I love cooking with all my heart.
What do you love most about what you do?
I love food and cooking is my passion.
What attributes, do you feel, are important for success in your role
Have faith and believe that one day you will succeed. I always believed that everything would work out for me and my family. I believe in God and keep my trust and faith in him. The love and passion for cooking has pushed me to work harder. Determination and resilience are key as well. I used to wake up early in the morning to sell fish on the streets and around the community. I also motivate that even kids can sell sweets and make pocket money for themselves.
What obstacles in life have you had to overcome, and what did you learn?
I was struggling and unemployed. I used to sell food in and around the community to make a living. I learnt to stand up for myself and not depend on someone else. I pushed myself and motivated myself to work hard as well.
What advice do you have for young girls?
I would advise young girls to go to school and become independent, not to rely on other people. Get up and do it for yourself because you can.
